How good does a home cooked meal made by someone else taste?
People mistakenly think I must be some kind of snooty gourmand but the thrill and gratitude I feel when someone else cooks for me is indescribable.
I’ve been a single mother since my son was born and figure, that give or take the occasional takeaway or meal out with him, I’ve cooked around 4000 meals for him and myself (often different meals).
That’s a hell of a lot of meals and a shitload of creative thinking. So to get a night off, when I also don’t have to dress up or be on my best (ish) behaviour, as I would in a restaurant is wonderful.
Don’t underestimate the power of a homecooked meal; no matter how simple; it’s true gift.

judging by the smell of whatever it was you were cooking when I was at yours, am sure it would be fantastic.

I’d never call you a snooty gourmand – but I also have to tell you I have learned a lot from your column(s) over the years. I’ll cook for you and boy child anytime, bring your togs and the kids can swim, we can eat, drink and be merry
